Strawberry Blueberry and Banana Smoothies

I promised my sister, Chris, I would post this months ago.  It is my favorite breakfast although it would make a great snack any time of day.  I sometimes switch up the fruit depending on what I have on hand but no matter what combination of fruit I use it makes for a great way to start the day. I think the combination of strawberries and blueberries are may favorite by far but don’t be afraid to experiment.

  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries
  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/4 cup of cran-grape juice
  • 8-10 ice cubes
  • 1 banana
  • 2/3 cup of greek yogurt – unflavored Chobani works great

I like to put the strawberries, blueberries, juice and ice in the blender first and blend until ice is completely chopped.  Then add the banana and yogurt and mix well.  Makes two awesome smoothies; and if you only need one you can always freeze the extra into popsicles for later!

Don’t hesitate to experiment;  pears, peaches, oranges, and cherries all work great too ~ you can add as many fruits as you like!

Vodka Cocktails with pomegranate juice

I am going to take the easy way out today and not so much post a recipe but instead my newest favorite drink.  I am in love with the pomegranate juice; I have found that a little goes a long way though. Use either a flavored or plain vodka; something you like the flavor of; most days I just use plain vodka but occasionally I use some flavor infused versions too.

  • Vodka – any kind will work
  • cran-grape juice
  • pomegranate juice
  • ice

In rocks glass filled with ice add a shot of vodka.  Fill just shy of the top with cran-grape juice and add a splash of pomegranate juice.  I used some of my flavored vodkas for a drink too; the cranberry lemon was very tasty.  Mix it up anyway you like!

Strawberry Vodka Cooler ~ Refreshing summer drink!

After a long day of window shopping online I was exhausted and didn’t feel up to working too hard to make dinner….. I think sloppy nachos will be in order; so as I looked through the produce at the grocery the strawberries reminded me of the lonely bottle of vodka I’d left in my pantry.  I grabbed a few other things I needed and hurried home to make up my concoction. When Charles gets home he’ll probably tell me it needs more vodka, but I am enjoying my drink and I’ve got the rest in a pitcher in the fridge so he can fix his up anyway he chooses! Very refreshing flavors; not to overpowering. Mix and match the fruit and juices to your liking.

Strawberry Vodka Cooler

  • 1 pound fresh strawberries – washed and tops removed
  • 1 cup lemonade ~ I used pink lemonade
  • 1 cup mixed berry fruit juice
  • 1 cup vodka
  • lime wedges
  • lemon lime soda ~ I actually used mountain dew but sprite would work well too

In blender combine strawberries and lemonade.  Blend for a few seconds to grind up strawberries.  I next strained the strawberry lemonade juice through a metal strainer to remove some of the seeds.  It didn’t get rid of them all but definitely thinned them down.  Next combine with fruit juice and vodka.  In tall glasses of ice fill 2/3 full with fruit and vodka mix, fill to top with soda, squeeze in a wedge of lime and stir.
