Vodka Cocktails with pomegranate juice

I am going to take the easy way out today and not so much post a recipe but instead my newest favorite drink.  I am in love with the pomegranate juice; I have found that a little goes a long way though. Use either a flavored or plain vodka; something you like the flavor of; most days I just use plain vodka but occasionally I use some flavor infused versions too.

  • Vodka – any kind will work
  • cran-grape juice
  • pomegranate juice
  • ice

In rocks glass filled with ice add a shot of vodka.  Fill just shy of the top with cran-grape juice and add a splash of pomegranate juice.  I used some of my flavored vodkas for a drink too; the cranberry lemon was very tasty.  Mix it up anyway you like!

Fruity Infused Vodka

I thought I would give a couple of fruity vodkas a try.  Flavored vodkas seem to be in right now and I thought some fresh fruit would compliment it nicely.  I can’t wait to see how the flavors come out; I did three different flavors; here are two of them.

Cranberry Lemon Vodka

  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries cut in half
  • zest of one lemon and a couple of slices
  • lemon balm leaves
  • 2 Tbs sugar
  • Vodka

In jar combine cranberries, lemon, sugar, and lemon balm leaves.  Cover with vodka and set aside for 2 – 4 weeks; shaking occasionally.

Orange Cranberry Vodka

  • 1/4 cup cranberries cut in half
  • zest of one orange
  • 3 – 4 orange slices
  • juice of half an orange
  • 1 – 2 Tbs sugar
  • Vodka

Combine all ingredients in canning jar and set aside for 2 – 4 weeks.  This one I actually used a bit of; the orange flavor really came through.  I combined mine with cran-grape juice for a very tasty drink.

Cran-Grape Fruitinirita ….. hmmm perhaps this cocktail needs a better name

I thought a fruity cocktail would be delicious after work today.  I suppose this is sort of margarita meets martini / cosmopolitan type drink.  There is something magical that happens when you begin mixing clear liquors together; each on its own can be overwhelming but combine one or two and yummy drinks can happen.  I like the cran-grape juice but I am sure fruit punch or any fruity juice would be good.  The better the quality of ingredients the better it will turn out.

  • 3/4 o.z. vodka
  • 3/4 o.z. rum
  • 3/4 o.z. triple sec
  • 3/4 o.z. gin
  • 1 1/2 o.z. cran-grape juice
  • 3 o.z. mountain dew or sprite
  • 2 tsp lime juice
  • 2 tsp simple syrup

Combine all ingredients in a shaker over ice; shake well and serve in a chilled martini glass. (To make simple syrup mix 1 part sugar to 2 parts water.)
